I bring new knowledge by applying ethnographic and historical methods to study people making music in holistic social settings, focusing on the cultural dynamics intersecting traditional and contemporary culture. I publish internationally in peer-reviewed journals (<em>Ethnomusicology Forum<\/em>, <em>Asian Music, Perfect Beat, Journal of World Popular Music<\/em><em>, Shima<\/em>) and with reputable publishers (OUP, Routledge, Brill, Rodopi, and Ashgate).<\/p>\n<p>My innovative research has been recognized as internationally significant with external research funding and awards from the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange; Royal Society of New Zealand; European Cooperation in Science and Technology; Seikei University (Japan); and Kagoshima University (Japan).
