Treaty activities

Tangata Tiriti – Treaty People
An interactive workbook on the Treaty of Waitangi for all New Zealanders. This workbook was designed for use in ESOL adult education contexts. Would be useful at various education levels. The resources are visual, interactive and facilitate discussion. The kit has 29 activities with notes for facilitators, handouts, worksheets, cards and slides. A companion CD supports planning, design of slideshow presentations and easy printing of activity resources.

Useful resources for senior level students. Teaching guides and resources to support Treaty of Waitangi education at the tertiary level – includes 24 activities.

Treaty Educators

Tauiwi Solutions

Tauiwi Solutions provides a facilitation and workshop service with cross-cultural Tauiwi facilitators based in Otepoti (Dunedin). They have a commitment to nation building and believe that everyone needs to find their own place to stand.

Workshops focus on

  1. Tauiwi (non Maori) learning about the historical context within which the Treaty of Waitangi was signed.
  2. the contradictions and confusions arising from the two different version of the Treaty
  3. dialogue about the historical background and relevance and implications for us today
  4. helping people explore what their stake is if the Treaty of Waitangi is to be honoured.

Network Waitangi Otautahi (NWO)

NWO has a particular emphasis on encouraging those who do not have Maori ancestry to understand the Treaty of Waitangi.

NWO promotes Strong Sustainability <www.phase2.org> and takes a Community Development approach, so they aim to start where groups and individuals are, taking into account the time they have available and the outcomes they want to achieve.
